HD trades at 18.7x NTM EPS, a modest discount to its 2y average, but the discount is earned given only 6.3% EPS growth and a PEG near 3.0x. The Pro pivot via SRS and GMS is structurally positive but unverifiable due to limited disclosure, and elevated leverage shows up in an EV/EBIT above historical averages. Base case fair value of $315 implies ~8% upside, below the 10% threshold for a BUY, so we remain on Hold with accumulation below $280.

HD is a high quality compounder trading at a modest discount to its own history but not at a discount to its growth. At $292.41 the stock is on 18.7x NTM EPS of $15.65 versus a 2y average of 19.6x, and 1.7x NTM sales. That looks cheap until it is paired with 6.3% NTM EPS growth and 3.4% revenue growth, which puts the PEG near 3.0x. On our DCF (WACC 9.5%, terminal growth 2.5%) fair value is $275 to $300, meaning the market is already embedding roughly 3.5% perpetual free cash flow growth. Risk/reward is balanced rather than compelling, and we would want either a lower entry point or evidence of a housing turn before adding aggressively.
The structural case rests on the Pro pivot. SRS Distribution and GMS have moved HD decisively into specialty trade distribution, adding roofing, landscaping, pool and building products revenue that is less discretionary and more recurring than DIY big ticket. Pro is now roughly half of sales and is the reason comps are holding at flat to +2% while big ticket DIY remains negative. The problem is disclosure: management does not break out SRS revenue, cross sell attachment or Pro wallet share, so investors are underwriting a thesis they cannot measure. The leverage used to fund the deals shows up in a 380.3% debt to equity ratio and an NTM EV/EBIT of 15.5x, above the 2y average of 14.7x, even as the P/E sits below average. That divergence is the single most important thing to understand about the valuation.
Recommendation: Hold, with accumulation below $280. Base case fair value $315 (20.1x NTM EPS), bull case $360 if mortgage rates fall enough to unlock housing turnover and the deferred remodel backlog, bear case $265 if comps turn negative and gross margin slips below 33%. The sell side consensus of $379.93 implies a re rating well above the 2y average and looks too optimistic against a 6% EPS growth profile. Watch three things: existing home sales and mortgage rates, gross margin versus the 33.1% guide, and any first quantification of SRS cross sell.
